How to Keep Your Pool Cover in Perfect Condition.

Pool covers offer many benefits to pool owners, such as extending the swimming season, protection against adverse weather conditions, and reducing water maintenance costs. However, to fully take advantage of these benefits, it is important to perform regular maintenance of the pool cover. Proper maintenance ensures long lifespan, smooth operation, and an aesthetic appearance of the cover. Here’s how to do it:

1. Cleaning

  • Do not use high-pressure water (such as a pressure washer) on the cover; instead, use a water stream, for example, from a garden hose.
  • Regularly clean the rails of debris (using a water stream or a soft broom) to prevent damage to the wheels during movement.
  • During winter, when snow accumulates on the cover, periodically remove the top layer of snow. It is not recommended to move the segments if the snow has frozen onto the cover, as this could damage the sealing rubber or the filling.
  • Under no circumstances should you use sharp tools! For cleaning and washing, only use clean water, or a mild soap solution with a clean sponge or soft cloth.
  • Do not use products that contain solvents (e.g., gasoline, acetone, alcohol, etc.).
  • Sunscreens and oils must not come into contact with the polycarbonate filling, as they can cause permanent damage.

2. Handling

  • When handling the cover, always make sure that there are no foreign objects (such as twigs, stones, leaves, etc.) along the entire length of the rails. If there are any, they must be removed.
  • The movement of individual cover segments should always be performed by two people. Each person should grab one side of the segment at the handles.
  • Remember to lock the individual segments after moving them.
  • We recommend rinsing the polycarbonate sheets with a water stream before moving, especially if the segments have not been moved for a while. This reduces the risk of scratching the filling, as the sealing rubber between the segments can come into contact with the filling during movement.

In the case of strong winds, check that all locks are secured into the rails and that the ends are secured with all the pins! Also, make sure that all doors and other openings (hinged doors, flaps, windows, sliding doors) are properly secured!

3. Maintenance

  • The individual locking mechanisms and door hinges must be lubricated with silicone oil twice a year. Be careful not to let the oil come into contact with the polycarbonate filling!
  • In the pool, it is necessary to maintain the free and bound chlorine level between 0.4 – 1 mg/l and the pH level between 7.2 – 7.6. If these values are not maintained, it may lead to oxidation of stainless steel and aluminum parts.

In case of damage, such as from weather conditions or vandalism, we recommend insuring your pool cover!
